Basic Life Support
What is Basic Life Support (BLS)?
Basic Life Support is CPR and other life-saving techniques. Heart & Stroke Canada has been creating and improving these teaching programs for over 60 years. They have two courses, BLS Healthcare Provider and Heartsaver.
As a Heart & Stroke BLS Instructor, Kate is able to offer both programs. Each one is designed to teach you basic skills to help in an emergency situation. Which one is best for you, depends on your professional occupation.
Why is Inkredible Birthing Offering This?
Inkredible Birthing is about Childbirth, Lactation and Education right? So why BLS?
A part of the courses offered by Heart & Stroke is about Infant and Child Choking & CPR. Some of the greatest risks for infants and children are choking and drowning. This program teaches you the skills to relieve a choking infant, how to perform CPR and steps to take in a case of drowning.
Infants and toddlers can drown in even a few inches of water; can choke on the simplest piece of food. Seconds matter, and if you have the skills to help while EMS is on the way, the better it will be for your child.
